Heather HumphreysIt was an uplifting, inspiring and often moving event; a celebration of musical from all traditions across the island of Ireland. The young musicians drawn for counties North and South of the Border, wowed the audience with an array of traditional and contemporary songs. The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland was formed 21 years ago as a peace initiative. Since then, the Orchestra has come to symbolize a modern, forward looking and inclusive Ireland. It was an honour to watch these young musicians as they helped us to commemorate and celebrate our Irishness. The professionalism and dedication of there young people, as well as their mentors, is something about which this country can be very proud.

Parents & Teachers

Read on to hear what parents and teachers involved in our Peace Proms have to say….

I am ashamed to say I was unaware of the Peace Proms and cross border music initiatives until I attended the Dublin Peace Proms last night. My son was part of our school choir. Wow! It was absolutely amazing. The quality of song and music, the diverse and interesting repertoire, the calibre of people involved, the organisational management which ensured it ran like clockwork… I could go on and on but perhaps my favourite part was the inclusivity of it all. Thousands of children singing as one regardless of race, colour, creed or social background. We are a DEIS school and to see the pride in the children we sent up there on stage was something else. I watched children who have attendance issues and behavioural issues sway to the music and beam with pride. Bravo! We in Scoil Mhuire Senior are all converts!

Clíona Galvin

I wanted to email you to say thank you for organising such a wonderful event as the Peace Proms concert, in which we participated last Saturday evening in The Hub. I heard about Peace Proms from a friend of mine last year and she advised me to apply to participate in this year’s concert. Little did I know last June when we began the whole process, what a rewarding experience it would be for all involved. I don’t think any words would properly describe the feeling of goodwill around the whole event. The children really enjoyed the whole concert experience and are already asking me about next year. But to be honest it was the reaction of the parents that surprised me the most. They were completely taken by surprise by the show. Many of them had no idea what a memorable occasion they would be attending. I am not exaggerating when I say there were tears of emotion shed at the end of it all. I really hope you feel suitably proud. So please accept my deepest gratitude for allowing us to be participate in Peace Proms 2014. I am looking forward to the next one!

Angela Connolly

A note of gratitude for the fantastic experience we had last night – both teachers and children. It was a pleasure to be involved with a project that was so well organised- start to finish! Clear and accurate communication, well staffed by competent and informed helpers, stunning musical performers, (particularly the fabulous orchestra)- the whole thing was a hugely positive event for our school. We would be honoured to be part of the Peace Proms again! As we work in a disadvantaged school, our children experienced a night’s music they are unlikely to ever access again- their feedback was so positive and passionate, it justified all the efforts made. You should take great pride in what you and your team have accomplished.

Paul Linehan – St. Brigid’s Primary School

We would like to say a big thank you to you, and the Peace Proms team, for what can only be described as an amazing and wonderful experience, one which teachers and children thoroughly enjoyed. When teaching the songs it was hard to imagine how it would all come together and how it would feel to be part of the performance, but it was truly amazing. The children are all talk about it today, and the compliments from parents included words like “in awe” and “in tears”. One of the things that I personally found wonderful about the whole experience was how much my boys in 5th and 6th enjoyed singing and even dancing! It didn’t matter if they were out of tune they just belted out the songs with such passion and enjoyment.

We are so looking forward to seeing the DVD so we can see the choir and the synchronised movements as a whole. Mind you, one of the children had a short video today, and who can be seen clearly dancing but me! And there was me thinking that I would fade into the background, in the midst of thousands of children!!!

Many many thanks for all the hard work that you, and the team, put into making this such a great experience for us, and for all the children around the country.

Breda Gallagher

Many thanks to everyone for all your help both before and during the concert. The experience was remarkable and so enjoyable for the children and teachers alike. It certainly was a first for a lot of our children to hear such a wonderful and talented orchestra. They were talented beyond their years. The children enjoyed learning and performing the repertoire. It was obvious that a lot of thought and preparation went into the selection of music. The front line staff were fabulous, so helpful and friendly. Gearoid was a very enthusiastic and charismatic conductor and certainly got the best out of the children. The logistics of getting so many children on stage were so well planned that it made our job as teachers so much easier. This was our first time doing the Peace Proms and it was very worthwhile…an experience to be repeated. I included some children with special needs, some with autism, in the choir this year for the first time and it was beautiful to see them getting such joy from the music. It is true that music does indeed reach the soul of everyone. Once again, many thanks for arranging and organising such a wonderful musical experience.

Eileen Doyle (Choir Director) Scoil Mhichil Naofa, Athy

I cannot express enough heartfelt thanks for such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The positive experience began from day one. Sharon was the nicest and easiest person to deal with. There was never any question/phone-call or email unanswered. The children loved learning the material and were very excited about both the rehearsal day in DCU and the concert. Yesterday was an emotional, exciting and exhausting day. We look forward to participating in this wonderful initiative in the future. Wishing you continued success with the upcoming coverts. Once again thank you.

Joanne Jordan. Newtown N.S., Ballinasloe, Co. Roscommon

Have just had last child collected from the bus in Ballymore Eustace. What a wonderful night they all had! It will be an experience that will live in their memory. The mind just boggles at the precision in the organisation of everything from the buses to the holding area to the stage—everything went like clockwork with the staff on hand at every turn. It made our part very easy to do. The orchestra are just wonderful and we never realised how young they were. The variety was so uplifting with the dance and bagpipes and I especially loved the Maries wedding/Gile mear piece. Hats off to everyone who was a cog in this well-oiled wheel. Having done school musicals on a very small basis  I get a headache even thinking of what drawing up a plan for something like tonight must be like! Many thanks for everything.

Mairead B. O Flynn, Principal, Scoil Mhuire, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare

Congratulations and continued success to all involved. There can be no substitute for live music and singing. Perhaps attendance could be made compulsory for all children so that they can experience the joy of live music!
Many, many thanks and continued success to you.

Alex Byrne, Balgaddy, Lucan Sth., Co. Dublin

Thank you so much for a fantastic concert. It really was a wonderful experience for the children, teachers and parents. We enjoyed every minute and it was clear how much hard work and effort you put into making it such a success!! Best wishes.

Mary McNeill and Emma Lawless. St. Catherine’s SGNS, Cabra West, Dublin

We had such a brilliant time and experience in UL on Saturday night. The atmosphere was amazing , all our children had a fabulous time and our parents were thrilled with the night. We have taken part 3 times now since Peace Proms started coming to Limerick and we have enjoyed and loved every time. Our pupils today spent the day talking about the night and already want me to book them in for next year.

So thank you to all involved, and we cant wait until next year.
We will be watching out for the application forms and don’t hesitate to send them straight to us.

You can count us in for next years concert , it is a fantastic experience.

Ide Mulcahy Mooney – St. Michael’s GNS, Tipperary Town

This was our first time to take part in Peace Proms. From the start, it was an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. Thank you so much for the calm and organised way in which you ran everything from start to finish. It amazed me at how well you had every last item and activity organised… all we really had to do was teach the songs and be there…. and what a successful day it was! The teachers, parents, helpers and children were thrilled with the whole day. Not only did the children get to sing in the RDS with a fantastic orchestra and conductor of the highest class, they did this in front of their parents who marveled, not only at the singing but at the high standard of the dancing ,soloists etc, that came with it.

Our children were given the opportunity to see an orchestra in action, sing with it and watch the other performances from the best of seats! I was most impressed and grateful to you Sharon, for your care and attention (and same from the staff) in dealing with Bouzid’s care needs. Nothing was a problem to you and you all made sure he was treated the same as every child. He had a wonderful day thanks to you.
So well done and take a bow yourself Sharon- you did a fantastic job!

Lorraine Harney, Coosan N.S, Athlone

A BIG thank you to you for all your hard work.  It must be a huge undertaking each year to put on such a brilliant event.  The children really do get so much out of it.  We may live fairly close to Dublin, but so few will ever get to see a symphony orchestra and such talent on display. I hope you all managed to get a well-deserved rest after the weekend!

Anita Russell, Scoil Naomh Brid, Talbotstown

Thanks a million for another unbelievable evening with the CBOI.  The children had an absolute blast and were asking me about next year already, which is always a very good sign of their enjoyment. Best of luck with everything for the rest of the year.

Louise and everyone at Castaheany Educate Together N.S.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and preparation for the Peace Proms concerts. The children really had a fabulous experience and we had lots of very positive feedback from parents and our principal after the concert. Once again, thanks very much for all your work, communication and support.

Susan Naughton, St Colmcille’s SNS, Knocklyon
